Hide N’ Seek

Sunday, November 22nd, 2009

Everyone knows that cats are notorious for hiding… at least most cats are.  Ours seem to do it infrequently, but they do take the opportunity from time to time. I happened to catch Zoey in the act the other day. I figured it was a rare moment, so I thought I’d get it on film… which isn’t so much film, as it is a memory card. If you look closely in the below picture, you’ll be able to spot him. It’s hard though. He’s very sneaky. Look for the eyes.

As Brandon says for Zoey, “I’m not so good at this whole being a cat thing.”

Can You Hear Me Now?

In addition to free shoe shines, the awesome bank where I work gives free copies of USA Today.  So when I’m not shining shoes, I’m generally reading the paper (yes, I get paid to read the paper) or solving the Sudoku or the crossword puzzle. Sometimes I cheat and use a Crossword Puzzle Dictionary, but how am I supposed to know that a “Still-life pitcher” is a “Ewer”? Just so you know, apparently it also has ears. So listen up, Ewer! Nobody knows what you are!! You are, for all practical purposes, insignificant! Just be thankful you have two Es or you wouldn’t even make it into crossword puzzles.

So when I was reading the paper today, I noticed a small ad from the USA Today.  It basically said that now you can have the complete newspaper emailed to you each day.  You can go to some website (I recycled the paper, so I didn’t write it down) to try it for free.  I’m assuming that “try it for free” means “and if you like it, then we’ll charge you.”  How lazy do you have to be that you can’t type in usatoday.com into the address bar? And why on earth would you ever pay for that “luxury”?

Sparkly

This last weekend, my friend, Amanda, got married in a beautiful ceremony. It gave me the chance to pull out my new, fancy dress. I’ve worn the same dress to every wedding (other than my own and Yessica’s… since I was the matron of honor) for the past three years. When a wedding last month was approaching, I took the plunge and bought a new one.

The magpie in me was drawn to the sparkles. Ooooh… sparkles! Cacaw! Cacaw! It almost gives off the impression that they’re rhinestones, but in fact it’s glitter.

So when I was driving to church the next morning and found a piece of silver glitter on my hand, I was reminded of one of my favorite Demitri Martin quotes, “The thing about glitter is if you get it on you, be prepared to have it on you forever. Glitter is the herpes of craft supplies.”

And They Lived Happily Ever (T)after

Monday, November 9th, 2009

For those of you that know our story well, you know that at the time we met - I lived in Kansas and Brandon lived in Florida. So how did we end up together? I think the answer is pretty obvious - at a concert in Ohio.

Every year our favorite band, Over the Rhine, puts on a show around Christmas at the Taft Theater in Cincinnati. Many of the band’s biggest fans (not literally) make the pilgramage. So on the 2nd weekend of December, 2004, that’s where we both happened to land. It was then that a friendship was born, which turned into a dating relationship, which turned into an engagement, which turned into a marriage - which somehow turned into 3 cats.

Though we’ve seen them many a time since (including our wedding… “Have I ever mentioned that they freaking came to our wedding?!!!” she asked sarcastically), we’ve not been back to Taft… until this year!!! The tickets are purchased, the hotel is reserved and the countdown is on!!!

I know. It’s been a long time since I’ve blogged. I’m bad, but… I’ve been very busy.

I celebrated two years of fabulous marriage (it’s my own, so that’s good), added another hash mark to the years of my life (I can be President now if I wanted… which I most certainly do not - but I’m considering campaigning just in case I change my mind in three years. Vote for me!!!) and one of my friends welcomed Millie Hope into the world.

So with no morsels for so long, you must be hungry. I’ll make this one extra tasty by showing you this fabulous video. I helped write very little of it, and give most of the credit to one deviant monk. But with a hint of credit, I must show it off as it is a dandy. Enjoy.
